What Lemongrass Is All About

Lemongrass, botanically classified as Cymbopogon citratus, is an aromatic grass belonging to the Poaceae family. The perennial plant thrives in warm, tropical to subtropical climates and grows upright, reaching anywhere from 1 to 1.5 meters in height. Lemongrass, a native to Southeast Asia is having two main species: West-Indian Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citrate) and East-Indian Lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus). West-Indian Lemongrass is mostly used for culinary preparations, while East-Indian Lemongrass is used as essential oil and is used in scent, perfume, soaps, lotions etc.. Lemongrass is favored for its tangy, light, and bright citrus-like scent and taste. Lemon grass is a perennial crop and having oil production for 5 years once planted. It smells sweet and has a fresh, lemony aroma with a citrus flavor. It is a common ingredient in Thai cooking and a bug repellant.
